3-Day Akagera National Park Safari
Overview
This 3-Day Akagera National Park Safari is a tailor-made safari package that lets you explore wildlife in Rwanda’s Akagera National park, the only savannah habitat in Rwanda. The park is popular for hosting the Big 5; elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and rhinos. The park is also home to several other bird species and other animal species, including primates like baboons and vervet monkeys. The park’s wildlife had depleted due to encroachment after the 1994 Rwanda Genocide. Encroachment was accompanied by poaching, which led to the reduction of wildlife species and numbers in the park. However, the government in partnership with African parks replenished the park by re-introducing wildlife into the park. Visiting the park will also show you the success of the project. Game drives and a boat cruise are the highlight of the trip, staying in midrange accommodation.

Detailed Itinerary
Arrival
- You’ll be picked up from the airport (or hotel) and be briefed about the trip.
- Accommodation before the tour departs can be arranged for extra cost
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Your guide from Safari Vacations and Travel Services will pick you up from the airport or hotel. This will mark the start of your 3-day Safari to Akagera National Park. You will have lunch en route (if applicable) and then proceed to the lodge. You will arrive in the afternoon or in the evening and check in for Dinner and Overnight.
Drive time: 3-4 hours from Kigali

Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema
You will wake up early in the morning and head to the savanna plains for a game drive. You’ll follow certain tracks in search of wildlife in the park. You’ll see a variety of animal species including lions, leopards, buffaloes, rhinos, zebras, giraffes, elephants, hippos, elands, different antelope species, warthogs, baboons, vervet monkeys, and many more. You’ll then return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll drive to the jetty on lake Ihema and commence your boat cruise experience. You’ll see many birds like geese, herons, African fish eagles, and many others. You’ll also aquatic animals like hippos and crocodiles basking in the sun. You may also see some other predators who want to sneak on the thirsty prey, plus many other land animals which will have come at the shores to quench their thirst. After, you’ll return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer back to Kigali to End the Tour
After breakfast and depending on your departure flights, you will drive back to Kigali and be dropped off at Kigali International Airport for your flight out; having lunch en route. This will mark the end of your 3-day Akagera National Park Safari.
