Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, your professional safari guide will welcome you and brief you about your upcoming gorilla trekking adventure. If time allows, enjoy a short Kigali city tour, which may include the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local craft markets, or a quick visit to one of the city's coffee shops. After the city tour, begin the scenic drive towards the Cyanika or Katuna border crossing. Your guide will assist with immigration procedures before continuing into Uganda.

Drive through the picturesque Kigezi Highlands, often called the "Switzerland of Africa," where terraced hills, valleys, and traditional villages create stunning scenery. Arrive at your lodge near Bwindi in the late afternoon or early evening.

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Optional Batwa Cultural Experience

Wake up early for breakfast before driving to the park headquarters for registration and a briefing from Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. The briefing covers gorilla trekking rules, safety guidelines, and conservation efforts before you are assigned to one of the habituated gorilla families.

Begin your trek through Bwindi's dense rainforest accompanied by experienced ranger guides. Depending on the gorillas' location, the hike may last between two and seven hours. Once you locate the gorillas, you'll spend one magical hour observing their natural behavior. Watch playful juveniles climb trees, mothers care for their infants, and the impressive silverback calmly watch over the family. This close encounter is widely regarded as one of Africa's most rewarding wildlife experiences.

After the trek, return to the park headquarters to receive your official gorilla trekking certificate. Later, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. If time and energy permit, enjoy an optional Batwa cultural experience where you'll learn about the traditions, music, dance, and forest survival skills of the indigenous Batwa people.

Return to Kigali – Departure

After breakfast, check out and begin the return journey to Kigali. Enjoy another scenic drive through the beautiful landscapes of southwestern Uganda and northern Rwanda. Depending on your departure schedule, you may stop at local craft markets or enjoy a brief Kigali city tour, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial (time permitting). Your guide will transfer you to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight or drop you off at your preferred hotel in Kigali.
