Night Game Drive in Lake Mburo National Park

What is the cost of Night game drives in Lake Mburo National Park?

Game drives are one of the most popular activities in Ugandan national parks, and for good reason. It’s an incredible experience to see animals in their natural habitat. Lake Mburo National Park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including buffaloes, zebras, leopards, Burchell’s zebras, elands, and various species of antelopes. You can take game drives in the early morning, mid-morning, afternoon, evening, and even at night. The more game drives you take, the more likely you are to see a variety of animals. Your guide will help you spot animals and provide information about them.

Night game drives in Lake Mburo National Park start at around 6:30-7pm and last for 2 to 3 hours.

While exploring Lake Mburo National Park, it is imperative that you are accompanied by an armed park ranger and guide. This precaution is especially important as leopards, known to be primarily nocturnal hunters, can often be spotted in the park at night. This is attributed to the presence of thousands of impalas, their favored prey, which abound within the park.

For the best chances of observing leopards, as well as other fascinating creatures like bush pigs, hyenas, and the elusive jennets and white-tailed mongooses, it is recommended to embark on night game drives.

Although game drives and wildlife viewing are available year-round in Lake Mburo National Park, many travelers opt for the dry seasons (January-April and July-October) for an enhanced experience. Nonetheless, some adventurers find the wet seasons equally captivating. There is also a unique appeal to engaging in nocturnal wildlife viewing, offering a distinct perspective on the wilderness.

It is also home to the largest population of zebra in Uganda estimated at about 5,000 and probably contains the highest concentration of leopard found anywhere in Uganda( though they are rare).

The Park is inhabited by a diverse range of wildlife, including Buffalo, waterbuck, topi, and warthog. Additionally, one can often encounter Reedbuck, oribi, Hyena, genet, bush pigs, and white-tailed mongoose during night game drives. With an impressive count of 350 bird species, Lake Mburo National Park is a renowned birding haven in Uganda.

Traditionally, Lake Mburo National Park has served as a pivotal stopover for many visitors, providing an opportune pause in their journey to Western Uganda. This strategic location has made it an integral part of travel itineraries to the region.
