Bwindi impenetrable forest -The national park is situated in south western part of Uganda covering an area of 321 kilometers. Its Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rain forests, which dates back over 25,000 years and contains almost 400 species of plants. More famously, this “impenetrable forest” also protects an estimated 400 mountain gorillas roughly half of the world’s remaining population, including several habituated groups, which can be tracked. This biologically diverse region also provides shelter to a further 120 mammals,
If coming straight from Entebbe or Kampala, the trip by road will take about eight to ten hours. During the rainy season, travel by 4WD vehicle is necessary for some trailheads. Bwindi can also be reached by scheduled or chartered flight. Kihihi is the closest airport to the Buhoma and Ruhija trailheads, Kisoro for the more southerly Rushaga and Nkuringo
Bwindi can be reached from Queen Elizabeth National Park to the north (2-3 hours), from Kabale to the south (1-2 hours), or from Kampala via the Equator to Mbarara (8-9 hours). The roads meet at Butogota, 17km from the Buhoma entrance gate. A 4WD vehicle is necessary during the rainy season.
Driving from Kigali is another avenue through Katuna border a drive which will take you between 4-5 hours to Bwindi thus you can fly to Rwanda and do gorilla tracking in Uganda
Getting to bwindi impenetrable forest national park can be through Charter Flight companies like Aerolink have operational flights to Bwindi which is well served by three airfields at Kayonza and Kihiihi for the northern sector and Nyakabande in Kisoro for those going to track gorillas in the southern sector (Nkuringo, Nshongi and Mishaya. Thus the flight can take you about 1.5 hours to reach however due to weather conditions flights to Kisoro are always ready in morning hours and set off from Kajjansi at 7:45 reaching at 9:30.
