2 Days Dian Fossey hike Tour is a short adventure that will take you to Volcanoes National Park where you will be able to visit Dian Fossey’s tomb. Dian Fossey was a primatologist who dedicated her entire life to research and conservation of the endangered mountain gorillas. During the safari, you will hike to Karisoke Research Center, where you will see Dian Fossey’s grave and enjoy great views of animals, primates, and bird species, among others.
Day 1: Pickup from Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park- visit the twin lakes
Day 2: Hike Dian Fossey and departure to Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport on the first day of the Dian Fossey hike tour, our driver will welcome you. He will brief you about the safari and then transfer you to Kigali for a city tour. During the city tour, you will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, Kimironko Market, and craft centers. This is where you will be able to buy souvenirs, and experience culture among others. After the city tour, you will go for lunch in one of the restaurants where you start the journey to Volcanoes National Park.
The journey takes about 2 to 3 hours drive and, on the way, you will have stunning views of the rolling hills, terraced farmlands, and traditional homesteads among others. Upon arrival, you will continue to check into the lodge and if there is time, you can drive to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo where you will have spectacular views of the sundowner, hills, terraced farmlands, fishermen fishing, views of different bird species among others. After the Twin Lakes tour, you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
After an early breakfast on the last day of the 2-day Dian Fossey hike tour, you will drive to the trailhead. From there, you will walk for about 10 minutes to reach the park border. From the park border, you will start hiking to Karisoke Research Center which is situated between Mountain Visoke and Mount Karisimbi. During hiking, you will pass through lush forests. You will have fascinating views of animals like forest elephants, giant forest hogs, primates, and different bird species among others.
Upon arrival at the research center, you will be able to see Dian Fossey’s grave which was murdered in 1985 and buried next to her favorite gorilla friend Digit, and other 20 mountain gorillas, some of which were killed by poachers. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about her work and the lasting legacy she left behind, which still endures to this day. After the Dian Fossey experience, you will enjoy your picnic lunch. You will then start descending to the starting point where you will meet up with your driver guide and transfer back to the lodge to freshen up and relax.
After relaxation, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide. You will then transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight or transfer to your hotel in Kigali
