4-Day Double Gorilla Safari Itinerary
Your 4-Day Double Gorilla Safari begins in Entebbe with a scenic journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
After a short briefing, begin the journey southwest towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive takes you through Uganda’s changing countryside, passing towns, farmland, rolling hills and rural communities.
You will stop along the way for lunch and short comfort breaks before continuing into the increasingly mountainous landscapes of southwestern Uganda.
Arrive in the Rushaga area of Bwindi in the late afternoon or early evening. Check into your selected lodge and enjoy some time to relax before dinner.
Your guide will also brief you about the following morning’s gorilla trek, including what to carry, expected conditions and the procedure at the park headquarters.
- Destination: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Rushaga
Meals: Lunch and Dinner
Main activity: Scenic road transfer
Overnight: (Budget) Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge, - (Midrange) Gorilla Leisure Lodge
- (Luxury) Gorilla Heights Lodge
After an early breakfast, transfer to the Rushaga gorilla trekking briefing point.
The morning begins with registration and a briefing by the park rangers. You will be allocated a habituated gorilla family before entering Bwindi accompanied by experienced ranger guides and trackers.
The trek may take several hours depending on where the gorillas have moved overnight. The forest itself forms an important part of the experience, with dense vegetation, streams, steep hills and opportunities to encounter birds, primates and other forest wildlife.
Once your group locates the gorillas, you normally spend one hour observing them from the permitted viewing distance. You may watch adults feeding, youngsters playing, females caring for their infants or a dominant silverback watching over his family.
After the encounter, trek back out of the forest and receive your gorilla trekking certificate.
Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Depending on the accommodation arrangement, you may later transfer towards Nkuringo to position yourself conveniently for the following morning's second gorilla trek.
Destination: Rushaga Sector – Bwindi
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Main activity: Gorilla trekking
Gorilla experience: Approximately one hour with the gorillas
Overnight: (Budget) Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge,
(Midrange) Gorilla Leisure Lodge.
(Luxury) Gorilla Heights Lodge
Today offers something unusual on a short Uganda safari: a second opportunity to trek mountain gorillas.
After breakfast, proceed to the Nkuringo Sector for registration and the morning briefing. Nkuringo is particularly known for its dramatic highland setting and can involve steep forest terrain, so guests should be prepared for a potentially challenging but rewarding trek.
Following the briefing, enter Bwindi with your ranger guides in search of your allocated gorilla family.
The experience can feel very different from the previous day's trek. You will be following another gorilla family in a different part of the forest, and their location, group composition and behaviour will determine how the day's encounter unfolds.
Once the gorillas are located, enjoy another one-hour viewing period. Having two trekking days provides considerably more time to appreciate the subtle behaviours and personalities of the mountain gorillas than a single trek allows.
After completing your trek, return to your lodge for a well-earned lunch and a relaxed afternoon overlooking the spectacular hills surrounding southern Bwindi.
Destination: Nkuringo Sector – Bwindi
