The 3-day Congo Lowland Gorilla Safari takes you to the famous Kahuzi Biega National Park in the Congo’s Bukavu province. You’ll explore the Lowland gorillas. Also known as the eastern lowland, these gorilla species are also endangered thriving in the dense jungle of central Africa. The 3-day Congo Lowland Gorilla Safari commences and ends in Kigali Rwanda. It presents sights of the Rwandan countryside, Butare Museum, and Nyanza Palace in addition to the lowland gorillas.

Detailed itinerary of the 3 Days Lowland Gorilla Safari in Congo, Gorilla Safari to Congo

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Bukavu – Congo

You are picked up from your place of stay in Kigali to embark on the transfer to Cyangungu in the south of Rwanda. The drive takes you through the magical landscapes of southern Rwanda making a stop in Nyanza. There you’ll visit the Royal palace known as Rukaari – the Royal home to King Musinga and his successor Rudahigwa. This will be for an extensive cultural touch along with another stop in Butare town for lunch. After, you’ll explore the National Museum of Rwanda. It is one of the largest Museums in East Africa and you will gain more heritage experience there. Proceed on the drive to Cyangungu crossing to Bukavu Congo for relaxation, dinner, and overnight

Day 2: Undertake lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi – Biega National Park in DR Congo

After breakfast, embark on a historical adventure of tracking the lowland gorillas thriving in Kahuzi Biega National Park. The lowland gorilla trek is very interesting as it presents an opportunity to explore these species. They are different from the common Mountain gorillas. The lowland gorillas are remarkably larger and prefer to stay in bigger groups. The trek to these species lasts about 1 – 4 hours. Following the gorilla trek, you can go for a nature walk in the Park to explore the Tshibati Falls. Alternatively, you will explore Bukavu town and the Mbayo tea estates. Retreat to the hotel for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 3:  Drive back to Kigali to end the tour

After breakfast, embark on the transfer back to Kigali – Rwanda to mark the end of the tour. You’ll have a stopover in Kigali Memorial Center to learn about the genocide and then drop off.
