Gorilla habituation experience is one of the most exciting experience to visitors who would like to encounter mountain gorillas. The experience takes 4 hours while with the endangered primates which are undergoing habituation before being opened for tourists.
The process offers you more chance for your learning on gorilla behaviors than gorilla trekking experience where you observe them as they feed and having already gotten used to human presence.
Bwindi impenetrable forest national park apparently has 19 habituated gorilla families in its designated sectors of Rushaga, Buhoma, Ruhija and Nkuringo however there are other Semi-habituated gorilla families located in Rushaga that are apparently undergoing habituation process.
Gorilla Habituation experience takes a period between 2-3 years where the primates are monitored on a daily basis to develop trust with well-experienced rangers and researchers plus some tourists as they observe a particular mountain gorilla family, this process is difficult and lengthy but more so rewarding since over time the gorillas under habituation will lose fear and aggression for mankind and develop love, comfort and calm behaviors once they encounter human beings without being violent.
Cost for gorilla habituation experience
Mountain gorilla habituation experience which takes 4 hours in the jungle along with the primates is accompanied with a cost which is approximately higher than gorilla trek. Habituation process cost $1500 per person per trek and as well limited to 4 people per day per trek to a given gorilla family. Currently, there are two mountain gorilla groups in the Rushaga sector that are undergoing the habituation process (Bikingi and Bushaho).
