When you decide to do a gorilla tracking safari in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park, you will be administered a gorilla family to track from any of the park’s 4 sectors and the Nkuringo sector is one of them located in the southern part of the Bwindi forest national park that has 3 different gorilla families.

If you track the mountain gorillas in the Nkuringo region, you will meet some of the most difficult gorilla treks within the park’s forest but which is a fascinating experience and rewarding.

The Nkuringo Gorilla Family

This was named after their founding leader Silverback called Nkuringo whose name meanings “a Round hill”. The family’s successful habituation got finished in 2004 and Nkuringo died four years later. He was survived by two sons namely Rafiki meaning friend in Swahili and safari.

Safari book up the leadership of the family and has been able to strongly hold all the members together through good times and bad seasons.

This family joyfully embraced healthy baby twins just 7 months into the safari era and the twins were named Katungi and Muhoozi, & unfortunately, Katungi died before seeing his second birthday now, the family composes of 9 members with a black back male who is dominant male since it has a black back.

Bushaho Gorilla Family

Bushaho Gorilla Family is another Gorilla group for Gorilla tracking in the Nukringo sector. This family has got 11 family members and has resulted in an increase in Nkuringo Gorilla tracking permits. Before the coming of the Christmas Gorilla family, there were 16 permits but after the introduction of the family, now 24 Gorilla permits are available on a daily basis.

Nkuringo Gorilla family stays in one of the most challenging Gorilla tracking sectors in the whole of Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park but when you finally come to the pathway, it is the most rewarding experience of all time.

These permits are purchased at the Uganda wildlife authority offices, booked on a first-come, first-serve basis. Christmas Gorilla family

Christmas Gorilla family in Nkuringo has 7 members headed by one silverback called Christmas one blackback, 4 females, and one baby. The introduction of this group has led to an increase in the number of Gorilla permits available for Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
