Itinerary for 4 Days Lowland Gorilla Trekking and Habituation from Kigali

Day 1: Arrival in Bukavu from Kigali

Pick up from Kigali and drive via the Ruzizi Rwanda – DR Congo border. Upon your arrival, you will transfer to your hotel in Bukavu. Take the rest of the evening unwinding at your hotel.

Day 2: Eastern Lowland Gorilla trekking

In the morning, you will head for the memorable adventure of trekking the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park. Trekking lowland Gorillas is amazing and these Gorillas differ from mountain gorillas. The lowland gorillas are bigger, and it thus usually takes 1-4 hours to track the lowland Gorillas. Also, the lowland Gorillas stay in bigger families than mountain gorillas. Undoubtedly, you will not regret the safari effort once you meet the amazing Gorillas! Then, later in the afternoon drive back to your hotel.

Day 3: Eastern Lowland Gorilla Habituation Experience

You will head for the memorable adventure of habituating the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park in the morning. Habituatingh lowland Gorillas is amazing, and it slightly differs from gorilla trekking. Firstly, the researchers will lead you to the forest for habituation instead of the rangers. Secondly, you will be looking for semi-habituated lowland gorillas, instead of the already-habituated gorillas. Thirdly, you’ll spend four hours with the lowland gorillas after finding them. This is thus different from gorilla trekking which takes 1 hour. Later in the late afternoon or evening drive, back to your hotel for relaxation and overnight.

Day 4: Return to Kigali and departure

In the morning, you’ll have breakfast and later embark on a journey back to Kigali. Depending on your program, you may pass via the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center before your flight out. This will thus mark the end of the trip.
