A Gorilla trekking permit is a pass document that is presented to travelers aged 15 years and above by Uganda Wildlife Officials in Uganda or Rwanda Development Officials in Rwanda at Trekking headquarters before proceeding for gorilla trekking activity and once you don’t have it you can’t go for the activity. These permits are available for the activity found in Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park and Mgahinga national park in Uganda and as well Volcanoes national park in Rwanda by Rwanda Development Board.
However gorilla trekking permit online booking does not guarantee gorilla family allocation for trekking but prescribes the sector for trekking, the gorilla family to trek will be allocated to you on the trekking day at the headquarters when you as assessed your level of fitness so that you can enjoy trekking a gorilla family with the best experience and less strains.

Cost of Gorilla trekking permit.
Currently a single gorilla permit in Uganda costs $600 for gorilla trekking experience for foreign non-residents and $1500 for Gorilla habituation, $500 for foreign residents and 250,000 shs for east Africa residents however trekking permits will increase with effect from 1st July 2020 gorilla permits will be at $700 per person for Bwindi and Mgahinga national parks and At present, Rwanda sells the most expensive permits at $1500 each for all people including Rwanda nationals.

Uganda Wildlife Authority introduced online booking for gorilla and chimpanzee permits for both travelers and registered tour operators. Only registered tour operators are allowed to access (UWA) database. Gorilla permit online booking guarantees access to check gorilla permit availability by just logging into the system to view booked and free dates to be booked. When your travel dates are ready to be booked the subscriber he will block and mark the dates with the Red color to conform that they are no longer available and upon this you are given seven days to have finalized payments for the permits. Although tourists are not granted access to this portal, you can as well send an email to Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters where you can get through different procedures until you make you’re booking after their response.

Cancellation policies for gorilla trekking.
Visitors who fail to track the gorillas (MGNP) as a result of their movement to the neighboring country shall receive a full refund on their permits. However, those who would have tracked the whole day and failed to view the gorillas for one reason or another will be refunded 75% of the tracking fee. All refunds shall be effected through the Reservation Office at Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Headquarters in Kampala.
Uganda Wildlife Authority shall refund 50% tracking fee, if the visitor fails to track due to illness, this will be at recommendation of the Warden in Charge and this clause only applies to visitors who have already tracked Bwindi impenetrable forest national park or Mgahinga Gorilla National park.
Uganda and Rwanda Gorilla permits are very competitive and scarce most especially during high/peak seasons of June, July, August, September, December and February. However this will change a little by the effects of Covid-19 where many travels have been cancelled and the economy has been strike with many travelers prioritizing for their health and pending holidays much longer.
