How to book chimpanzee trekking permits?Kibale Forest National park is a primate capital and a first stop Centre for chimpanzee trekking and habituation experience located in southwestern part of Uganda. The tropical rain forest is home to the highest population of chimpanzees along with other 12 primates. If not handled with care, humans risk causing the extinction of chimpanzees, who are listed among the endangered species. This would deny future generations the opportunity to encounter their distant cousins. They share 99.9% of human genes hence our closest relatives and are susceptible to human diseases.
Uganda Wildlife Authority has simplified the booking of Uganda chimpanzee permits through the introduction of online chimpanzee permit booking system, the online permit system allows travel operators to access and book the available permits by just logging into the system and clicking on BOOK a permit. Our chimpanzee trekking/habituation permits in kibale are not so high and they cost $200 and $250 during the peak and low season.
You can choose the shift for your chimpanzee trekking experience. There are two options for a half-day tracking, available at either 8 am in the morning or 2 pm in the afternoon. This experience typically lasts 2-4 hours, depending on the proximity of the group, and allows you a one-hour period with the chimps. For visitors whose interest is to do a full day chimpanzee tracking will need to secure a Chimpanzee Habituation permit (CHEX) which gives access to a full day chimpanzee habituation from 6 am in the morning during de-nesting up to 6pm in the afternoon during nesting.
