Many travelers who would love to travel with family ask whether their children can trek the mountain gorillas in Uganda and Rwanda– and we answer that the gorilla trekking age limit in Uganda and Rwanda is 15 years of age. And following the rules and regulations governing the activity of gorilla trekking both in Uganda and Rwanda, Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and Mgahinga gorilla national park in Uganda and volcanoes national park in Rwanda, allows only and only persons aged 15 years and above to trek the mountain gorillas, as those persons under that age are regarded as young.
So if you young ones are aged 15 years and above, no need for worrying since no one or no rule stops them from participating in the gorilla trekking activity in Uganda or Rwanda.
For persons under that age of 15 years that is the gorilla trekking age limit are not allowed to do gorilla trekking unless otherwise an advance arrangement is made with the authorities and that person should then be 6.0 inches tall and should be a few days to his or her 15th birthday, it can be like 2-3 months to reach 15 years and strong but it is not a guarantee that authorities will accept though you can give a try as you can be lucky and he/she is allowed to do gorilla trekking.
The main reason as to why these persons under 15 years of age are not allowed to trek the gorillas is that sometimes the gorillas can charge and a 15 year old can take the precautions and be attentively listen to the Dos and Don’ts during the briefing session as it can be the opposite to the under aged.
The next reason is that these young ones are always playful and can slow down the pace of the whole group trekking in the trails in search of the gorillas, as they are always looking around and breaking herbs,
And still due to the density of the forests like Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, it’s not recommended for children under that age as they can find difficult to follow the trails as the activity require a lot of energy and high level of fitness, and the kids are likely to find it difficult to trek into these thick forests.
But there are always other alternative Africa safari activities for the children when the adults go to the forest for gorilla trekking, lodges are usually unique arrangements for the kids and they always have the professional care takers. Activities like biking, community visits and nature walks are the common and can keep the children busy are active until the adults return from mountain gorilla trekking activity.
