The park is blessed with over 480 gorillas in its conserved environment which is almost half of the world’s mountain gorillas totaling to 880 and thus having over 18 habituated gorilla families each being opened for visitors. With each family visited in a group of eight per day and spending one hour of experience with them however more time is allocated to habituation process which takes four hours in study of how these primates can adopt to human encounter in the jungle without being harmed.
Mountain gorillas are very peaceful primates but can become tough and aggressive if provoked. They are vegetarians and most times seat strategically near fresh leaves and grab all that is in reach of their hands as they feed.
This is yet another optional activity that can be done around Bwindi impenetrable forest. This activity is a community based initiative run by women under their association known as Ride 4 a woman. This activity will take you to hiking through the trails of Buhoma and while at the top you will be able to observe beautiful sceneries of the forest and several wildlife around the area for a wonderful and memorable experience
Through the nature walk in the forest you can be able to trace black and white colobus monkey, Red-tailed monkeys amidst gorilla trekking experience, more so you can be able to see other nocturnal primates all which will make your adventure to the area more sound and lively.
In the thick dense forest of Bwindi forest lies a home for over 350 bird species of which 23 of these are endemic to the area which due to the nature that it holds and thus the country at large is the best birding destination in Africa.
