Bwindi Impenetrable National Park renowned for gorilla trekking, stands as one of Uganda’s foremost safari destinations. The park is home to the endangered Mountain gorillas residing in the high-altitude regions of southwestern Uganda, not far from the country’s capital, Kampala. Bwindi Fly-in Gorilla Safari – 4 Days
Back in 1991, tourism opened up in the park when gorilla habituation commenced in the Buhoma gorilla region north of the rainforest. By 1993, one group named Mubare had been established. Since then, the gorilla population in the park has grown significantly, transforming it into a habitat for half of the current mountain gorilla population. Meanwhile, These gorillas are now distributed across four gorilla trekking zones: Buhoma in the North, Ruhija in the East, Rushaga, and Nkuringo in the South. All of these zones are open for gorilla tourism.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located over 450kms from the main capital Kampala and the drive can take between 8-11 hours and advisable in a 4×4 safari vehicle.
Clients can fly from Entebbe to either Kisoro, which is located south of the rainforest, or Kihihi which is located north of the rainforest. In addition to that, The flight from Entebbe to either of the airstrips takes 1-2 hours, depending on the weather. Moreover, Flying is one of the best ways to access the rainforest for your gorilla trekking experience in Uganda.
We recommend flying in to Kihihi airstrip and trekking gorillas in Buhoma or region as the drive distance between the airstrip and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is 1-1.5 hours via a reasonable road conditions during dry seasons.
While gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is viable throughout the year, the influence of rainfall can pose a challenge. The trails may become slippery, making hiking more strenuous. However, this period also signifies the green season for wildlife observation in Uganda. The recommended periods for optimal conditions are the dry seasons from June to September and from December to February, providing the best opportunities to observe the gorillas.
