Booking for Gorilla trekking experience! For anyone who is planning his or her gorilla trek to Uganda, Rwanda or DR Congo. a gorilla permit is a must to have if you are to be allowed to track one habituated gorilla family in the national park. Without a gorilla trekking permit, your trek is never confirmed for a given date. Rwanda sells the most expensive permits at 1500usd Uganda at 600usd for foreign non-residents, 500usd for foreign residents and 250,000shs for east African residents and 450usd in Democratic Republic of Congo. Procedures towards booking your gorilla trekking permit.
Mountain gorilla trekking permits can be obtained through Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) at the headquarters Kampala. If you are booking through UWA, you will contact UWA’S reservation office by email inquiring about the availability of the dates you wish to go for gorilla trekking.
In Rwanda, gorilla trekking permit is issued by Rwanda Development Board Offices (ORTPN) or the Rwanda Development Board in Rwanda- Kigali or Ruhengeri near Volcanoes National Park.
First and foremost you have to provide dates or date you intend to go for gorilla trekking. You are free to make a suggestion on a few dates just in case your first choice of date is already reserved. You have to scan and then email a copy of your passport to a respective tour operator you are dealing with.
You will then send your passport details to register your gorilla permit. Your full names, passport number and nationality are normally the most important things that are needed since they are the ones to be included on your gorilla permit to ensure clarity once you are sent the scanned copies before the original is issued out.
You will be sent with company’s bank details for you to send the money for gorilla trekking permit; it takes nearly 16 hours for the tour operator to receive the money from your bank and pay for your permit. You will be sent an acknowledgment for the money and the official gorilla permit-by scan and email.
A permit allows you to view gorillas for only one hour but the gorilla trekking itself can take a minimum of 30 minutes or up to nine hours while looking for gorillas in the forest. And more so gorilla habituation experience which is practiced in Uganda allows visitors to have four hours experience with the gentle Apes at a cost of $1500 Per Person Per trek in Rushaga sector of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.
NOTE; if you are willing to book for an entire gorilla group you pay $15000 which is termed as “exclusive” experience.
Interested visitors are therefore encouraged to plan their gorilla safaris in advance prior traveling to the destination for the actual trek at least 4 to 6 months in advance.
