Welcome to the Land of the Thousand Hills! Arrival at Kigali Airport where you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel.
Full day in the vibrant capital city of Kigali, where you can enjoy a guided city tour and visit some interesting, historical sites. Learn more about Rwanda’s heart-rending history at the Genocide Memorial Centre and visit the Nyamata Church. You will also have the opportunity to stroll the colorful markets or buy traditional African handwork at the Craft Village.

After breakfast, we calmly transfer to the Eastern part of the country. Reaching the unexplored Akagera National Park you will be surprised by the changes in landscape and vegetation. After checking in at your accommodation you will go for an afternoon game drive for a first introduction to Rwanda’s wildlife. Furthermore, you will go for a game drive which will allow you to see very many wild animals including the Big 5: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and Buffalos. Also, It can also be a good opportunity for those interested in birding to see different species of birds who found a home in Akagera National Park.

Early in the morning, we will follow the tracks in search of elephants, lions, buffalos, and a variety of birds. This morning game drive will allow you to see animals that you may have missed the previous day. Other animals such as zebras, giraffes, antelopes, monkeys, hippos and many more will give you a satisfying experience once you see them grazing, feeding, associating, and nurturing their young. Return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon we will experience the park from a different perspective with a scenic boat trip along Lake Ihema. You will float quietly past herds of hippos and huge crocodiles lying lazy on the shores.
Enjoy another morning game drive before we head back to Kigali. This allows you to see animals that you may have missed during the previous game drives or gives you an insight into how animals’ feeding and social habits change during different hours of the day. After breakfast, we transfer to the southern part of the country. En route, we will make a stop to visit the Royal Palace Museum in Nyanza, and the Rwanda National Museum in Butare, which houses one of the finest collections in East Africa, and we will have lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon we continue to the mysterious rainforest of Nyungwe, a true birder’s paradise and renowned for its many species of primates.

A full day to enjoy the magical surroundings of Nyungwe Forest National Park! In the morning we will go for an exciting primate walk in search of the habituation chimpanzees. Afternoon at leisure or if you’re looking for some more adventure, why not join an optional forest walk or canopy tour?! A canopy tour is a great opportunity for those interested in birds since the forest has very many bird species that are interesting to watch. The canopy walk will also guide you through the fascinating ever-green forest as you can see the trees from the elevated trails.

From Nyungwe Forest after having breakfast, we continue to Lake Kivu for some relaxation. It is the largest lake in Rwanda and beautifully located amid mountains and green hills. In the morning you will have the opportunity to visit the nearby Hot Springs of Bralirwa. Alternatively, you will go for a boat ride on the lake while exploring the small islands and rich birdlife. After lunch we will have a short drive to one of the most beautiful national parks in the country: Volcanoes National Park. Overnight at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge/Hotel Muhabura
Today you will drive to the park Headquarters for a briefing about the endangered mountain gorillas that you will be able to trek. You will be given guides by the park and the park rangers who will escort you through the trek where you will have the opportunity to spend some time with the endangered mountain gorillas. It will take you 0.5hrs to Half a day to find these interesting creatures depending on where the gorillas spent their night. You will make a beautiful hike through the green landscape and hills of the Virunga Volcanoes. Spend a magical hour with these amazing creatures while your guide explains more about the family and their behavior.
In the afternoon you will visit the village Iby’Iwacu, located in the shadows of the Virunga Volcanoes. Reformed poachers in this village showcase the traditional Rwandan way of life.

Have a relaxed breakfast and enjoy the beautiful scenery one more time as we calmly transfer back to Kigali. Depending on the time of your international flight you will be dropped at Kigali International Airport.
